The Melbourne Spectres LGBTQIA+ Basketball Club is part of Australia’s Pride Basketball community, where belonging meets the court.

​

For 25 years, Spectres Australia has championed LGBTQIA+ inclusion in basketball, growing from a small group of players founded in 2001 into a national network spanning Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.

​

As the Melbourne chapter, we offer a welcoming, inclusive space for people of all skill levels to play, compete, connect, and proudly belong, both on and off the court. Everything we do is guided by our core values of Respect, Friendship, Community, and Unity.

Our Values

RESPECT

Respect is where it begins, for ourselves, for out teammates, for our opponents, and for our community. It means recognising the dignity of ever person, celebrating diversity, and creating spaces free from disrimination and harm. Respect is shown not only on the court, but in how we speak, listen and lift each other up.

FRIENDSHIP

From the first Spectres team to every club that followed, foreindship has always been our bond. Through basketball, we find connection, across cities, generations, and identities. These freinfships trancend competiton; they become families of choice, offering the acceptance and support many were once denied.
 

COMMUNITY
The Spectres have always been community built and community driven. We play for something bigger than ourselves, to represent those who were once invisable, to mentor those who come after us, and to make sport a place where every LGBTQIA+ perosn feels seen and safe. Our Community is our strength, diverse, proud, and united by purpose.

UNITY

Respect, Freindship, and Community naturally lead to Unity, the value that defines our future years. Unity means one brand, one vision, and one shared responsibility to protect and grow what we've built together. It means standing together, across club, states, and gnerations, to ensure that Pride basketball continues to thrive, inspire, and empaower all in our communites.

Every time we step onto a court waering the Spectres logo, we carry these values with us. They remind us that we do not just play the game, we chnage it. Through Respect, Friendship, Community, and Unity, we continue to light the way for the next generation of LGBTQIA+ basketabllers.
